Short hair styles are great because they're easy, versatile, and lots of fun. It's during summer that many think seriously about getting their hair chopped short, but really it's a fact that short hair is great for any season. Not to mention that it's cheaper! No need for all those hair products and styling appliances. And talk about a time-saver! With shorter hair, you can get a shower, towel dry your hair, fix it up fast, and be on your way a heck of a lot faster than with long hairstyles.
First off, avoid the temptation to get an ultra-short cut on your first try. That style you saw on a beautiful movie star might not be a good fit for you. Start off conservatively. Go with a medium-length style first. Then, if you look good, have your stylist take off a bit more. Take off a little at a time and stop to do a reality check. Too many women jump right in with a major chop job, only to regret it without any real solution but to wait for their hair to grow out. You don't need that headache, right?
Next, don't try to fit a round peg into a square hole. This is about your face shape. Certain hair styles look good or bad on faces of different shapes. So if you see a hairstyle you want to try, ask yourself how similar your face is in terms of overall shape (round, heart-shaped, square, long, squat, etc.) to the model or actor you saw that style on. If the cut you really want only looks good on women with completely different facial architecture, it's probably means you should keep looking.
The last mistake a lot of women make when contemplating a short hair style is going it alone. Instead, ask your pals what they think about your plans. Your really good friends won't pull any punches with you. If most of them are positive about it, you have a good indication that a shorter style is a good option! But if they're hesitant or negative about it, you'll need to think about it some more and be totally honest with yourself.
And don't stop with your friends. You have a great ally in your hairstylist, who is a professional and probably knows intuitively if a short hairstyle is right for you or not. Not only that, but an experienced stylist will be able to suggest lots of short haircut choices that aren't common knowledge!
